Tongue Rings (Straight Barbells)

The most common size for a tongue ring is 14 gauge and 5/8" in length. The gauge refers to the thickness of the shaft. The length is the wearable area between the threaded ends.

Proper placement is critical for a tongue piercing to be comfortable (and safe). Traditionally tongue piercings are placed in the center of the tongue, approx. 3/4" from the tip. It is common to have the top of the barbell slightly further back than the bottom, to avoid hitting your teeth.
